FAQs

What are your wax products made of?

At Mani Farms, we do whatever we can to be environmentally friendly and use sustainable ingredients.  Our candles are 100% natural soy wax, the wicks are either cotton or hemp or wood and the fragrances that we choose to use are all non-toxic, cruelty and phthalate free. Our tealights and wax melts are made of a soy blend that consists of soy wax and palm wax. This is done to ensure a harder final product that wont sweat or get soft as it sits! Of course, we could use chemicals for this... but why would we?? All of the products we make come in reusable or recyclable containers, and our products are totally biodegradeable.

Where are your candles made?

All of our products are handmade, hand poured and packaged right here on our homestead in Springfield, Manitoba. In fact, right in our kitchen and workshop!

How long do your candles last?

Well, as long as you follow the wick trimming instructions for candles, and only burn them for 4 or 5 hours at a time, you should get the best life out of your candle! Our tealights can burn 3-5 hours, each. Our 8oz candles will last approximately 45-50 hours, our 9oz, approximately 50-55 hours and our 15oz candles approximately 60-65 hours.  Please keep in mind that there are factors that can affect approximations.

Why should I only burn a candle for 4-5 hours and keep the wick trimmed?

In order to prolong the life of your candles, these good practices will help! Not trimming the wick creates a longer wick, that makes a larger flame.  This melts the wax faster than the wick can burn away. This causes your candle to continuously melt faster.  Keeping the wick trimmed and only burning a candle for 4 to 5 hours at a time, slows this process down so you get a longer burn time out of your candle.  Burning the candle this way also ensures that the wax melts all the way to the edge of the container.  It's the melted wax that gives off the scent (not the flame), so this method also maximizes your candle's scent as it burns. It also prevents your candles from "tunneling", also known as burning a hole down the middle of your candle leaving un-melted wax on the insides of the container.

What's the difference between soy wax and paraffin wax?

The big difference is that soy wax is made from great renewable and highly sustainable soybeans, and it burns slower and cleaner than paraffin, making your candles last longer.  Paraffin wax is refined from crude oil, so you will notice more petrol-carbon soot as it burns

Can I special order a candle with more fragrance?

You sure can! However, there is a maximum amount of fragrance that can be added to the wax before the candle no longer burns clean or properly. We find that an 9% scent throw is perfect, but feel free to contact us with any questions or requests.  Please note that a higher percentage of fragrance will increase the cost of the special order.

Can your containers be reused?

Absolutely! All of our candle jars can be reused! Some have lids and some might not, but you can definitely reuse them! Once there is about 1/4" wax left or the wick has burned out completely, using caution, scrape out the rest of the wax, and remove the wick and labels.  Make sure you toss it in the garbage and not down the drain or garbage disposal! Then soak the container in hot water with soap so the residue can soften up and then just simply wash like any other dish and dry! Note: Mani Farms assumes no liability for candle containers or subsequent results of reuse by consumer - but be creative and have fun!
